Gaffe Watch

Certainly a gaffe, Sen. Obama, but maybe not fatal.

It's so weird to me how we're engaged in this elaborate act, kabuki, if you will, and nobody seems to mind. Person A says X which offends People B who feign outrage which forces Person A to issue a bogus non-apology which then forces People B to relent. That's our idea of reconciliation?

Sen. Obama says, "...I would absolutely apologize if any ..." That's not an apology at all. But it doesn't matter, because nobody is actually offended. And yet, he has to go through the motions anyway. Bizarre.

It's like some right of passage in the political world, satisfying a desire on our part for, what, humility? I agree, weird.
